Level 5 - Assessments
The Level 5 Assessment is designed to get a complete view of a student’s attainment across the full breadth of the Maths For Life Level 5 subject content. There are three like-for-like assessments available. Start with the assessment ending 001 to establish a baseline, and then use the 002 and 003 versions to compare progress at an interval in the future.
Each question has got two pieces of information to record - the outcome and the level of help provided. Record the outcome of each question as ‘C’orrect, ‘A’ttempted but not correct, or ‘N’ot attempted. If a question has more than one part, all parts must be correct for it to be given. Using the Maths For Life Hierarchy of Independence® record how much support has been given to complete the question. Please take time to understand the hierarchy and record results accurately for each question.
It is the maths ability that is the focus of the assessment and therefore it is fully acceptable to read each question for the student. For those students who are still working with ‘concrete’ or real items and find the 2D pictorial representation difficult to understand, the questions can be modelled using objects. Answers can be spoken, written, selected from flashcards or pointed at. It is not essential to do the complete assessment in one sitting, it can be done over several days. If you know that a question is beyond the current capability of a student you can chose not to attempt it. And don’t stop at the first question that you come across that is difficult - the level of the assessment is mixed throughout, keep going.
There is a results sheet, an assessment tool and an Excel calculator available to help you understand the results, use the assessment data to set targets, and inform individual, group or school planning. If you need more guidance, there is an on-demand ‘The Assessment Process’ training course available to purchase at £25+VAT via the community forum. The results can also be used to input into the reporting and accreditation system to generate automatic reports and certification.
Exclusively for school subscribers, access to the reporting and accreditation system will be via the purchase of credit bundles in quantities of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100. Independent of time taken, each credit will give you access to up to three reports per student at a specific level.
If you are a home user, you are able to purchase an individual reporting and accreditation package.
